The database reporter at the Tulsa World at the beginning of each tornado season does a yearly review of the tornadoes of the last season. This year he got a database from the National Weather Service of each tornado that crossed the state in ’09 and ’10. The World had never put that data up online before, but considering how well some of the other projects had gone to that point they threw it at me and told me to give it a shot.
I used a simple Fusion Tables layer on a Google Map to plot the tornadoes. At the time I didn’t feel comfortable trying to plot the tornado’s path, but a later project I did just that.
A quick bit of jQuery and UI allowed me to alter the queries sent to Fusion Tables and I was all wrapped up.
